Building a Supportive Community: Changing Lives One Connection at a Time

The Second Chance Scholarship Foundation believes that change begins at the grassroots level. They build a supportive community through a variety of meaningful projects aimed at connecting with at-risk youth and providing them with the resources they require to succeed.

• Mentorship Programs: Pairing at-risk youth with experienced mentors who offer a listening ear and invaluable guidance on personal and academic matters.
• Outreach Events: Building connections with at-risk youth in their communities and providing them with resources and information about the Foundation’s programs.
• Platinum Dinners: This unique program brings volunteers and resources directly to youth detention centers. Volunteers provide culturally diverse meals, but more importantly, they offer workshops, lectures, and mentorship sessions. These dinners are more than just a meal; they are a chance to foster connection, empower youth, and offer a glimpse of hope during a difficult time.

The Foundation knows that feelings of loneliness often worsen throughout the Christmas season. Platinum Holiday Dinners address this need by ensuring these young people that they are not alone on Christmas and New Years Eve. These dinners bring a ray of hope and serve as a reminder that there is a community that cares. 

Opening Doors to Opportunity: Bridging the Financial Gap

Financial barriers are a significant hurdle for many at-risk youth seeking to pursue educational opportunities. The Second Chance Scholarship Foundation addresses this issue by providing a number of scholarships and bursaries that give critical financial support.

Programs like the Jamaal Magloire and Gord Martineau Scholarships,  offered in collaboration with Humber College, go beyond financial aid. These grants offer mentorship and advice, ensuring that students have the resources they need to thrive in their postsecondary education. These scholarships, named after those who have committed their lives to helping others, not only provide finances but also demonstrate the transformational power of education.

The Foundation also provides bursaries like the Christie Blatchford Second Chance Bursary at OCAD University.  These bursaries offer targeted financial assistance to bridge the gap and make educational opportunities accessible for deserving students who may otherwise struggle financially.
